MIAMI — After Thursday morning’s shootaround at AmericanAirlines Arena, LeBron James said that New York is a more experienced and dangerous team now. He called the addition of Jason Kidd, his former Olympic teammate in 2008, a “key piece” to the improved Knicks.

“I think his basketball IQ is pretty much one of the highest that we have in this league, and it kind of trickles down to everyone else,” James said. “I mean, in the ’08 Olympics, he was our starting point guard, and I think he took, what, one shot a game.

While the Knicks slipped one spot to seventh, the Nets jumped up three spots to No. 6 in this week’s NBA Power Rankings, compiled by ESPN NBA writer Marc Stein, who writes:

On the Knicks: “A win in Milwaukee is a good win these days, but the Knicks wouldn’t dare suggest that they’re all the way back to their early November best in terms of swarming D and draining 3s. Every weekday throughout the season, ESPNNewYork.com will tackle a burning question about the Knicks in our “Opening Tip” segment.

Marcus Camby was ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Phoenix Suns shortly before tipoff due to a sore left foot.

Camby participated in a walk-through with the Knicks on Saturday, so it is unclear when the injury flared up. Mike Woodson said 90 minutes before tipoff he expected to have all of his players except Jason Kidd (lower back spasms) available.

Camby, 38, missed the entire preseason due to a calf injury and entered the season out of game shape.

During Friday morning’s shootaround, the Knicks didn’t think Jason Kidd would be out much longer with lower back spasms. But in the meantime, backup point guard Pablo Prigioni has been stepping in nicely for the future Hall of Famer.

After a 11-point, seven-assist performance in the Knicks’ win over the Bucks on Wednesday night, Prigioni put up eight points, five assists and no turnovers in 25 minutes off the bench Friday night. He was also in rhythm from downtown for the second game in a row, shooting 4-for-5 during that stretch.
