Baron Davis plays a gym teacher in Adam Sandler’s new movie “That’s My Boy,” which opened in theaters nationwide on Friday.

“That’s My Boy,” a comedy about a father (Sandler) trying to reconnect with his son (Andy Samberg), also features Jets head coach Rex Ryan. His character, named Jim Nance after the star running back for the 1960s Boston Patriots, is a lawyer whose office is decorated with Patriots paraphernalia, Bruins jerseys and Red Sox pennants.

Welcome to BR5, your daily source for sports and pop culture news.

It’s Friday and you know what that means! The workweek is almost over now, and BR5 is here to clue you in on your prime viewing options for the weekend on: BR5’s “Check It Out.”

First off, we want to give a heads up to all you non-sports enthusiasts. Fridays always provide us with an opportunity to hit the theaters. Popcorn, soda, some candy perhaps? Sounds like a pretty solid way to spend the evening. So if that sounds the least bit appetizing, “That’s My Boy” starring Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg opens across America today.  Sandler’s been putting out movies for quite a while now. Instead of a hockey goon turned golf pro, lawn mower riding water boy, or love struck Hawaiian, in this film Sandler is playing a bad father to successful son (Samberg).  As expected, there seems to be quite a lot of physical humor and stunts as well. Like most Sandler flicks, you know what you’re getting when you go to the theater to see him: take it or leave it.

If you decide to leave it, there are a few sports options that certainly won’t disappoint, the first of which is the US Open. It started on Thursday, and they’ll be in San Francisco all weekend battling it out. Can Tiger Woods finally put it together and win another Major? Names like Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson, and Rory McIlroy will be on hand (along with some blustery wind off the bay) to try and derail his shot at a long awaited victory.

If you’re still not interested this last one is sure to grab you. The NBA Finals have been great so far. No reason to think they won’t get better as this series continues. LeBron James and Kevin Durant have been solid, but which one will be good enough to win their first ring? Only one way to find out: Check It Out!

Carly Rae Jepsen is killing music one parody offspring at a time. The latest is an ode to Kevin Durant that gets placed in the suck barrel simply for it’s relationship to that mind-numbing song “Call Me Maybe.”

Oklahoma City Thunder fans have come together to ruin my day. Well, I am sure it was to band around the team and promote superhuman Kevin Durant, but I see it differently.

Here is the latest from a group of fans who brought you such hits as “Beard Like Harden,” a parody I rather like.

You know why? It’s because it doesn’t sound like every other parody, which are seemingly coming out every five minutes right now. You want to impress me? Make something that sounds nothing like “Call Me Maybe.”

I now have a Pavlovian reflex that causes me to walk into oncoming traffic at the mere opening bars to the song. God forbid I start humming the damn thing in the shower, because then I try to drink enough shower water to drown myself from anger of my stupidity.

I have had it with these parodies. Please stop, America. You are hurting the planet far more than you know.

This song, called “Call Him KD,” is fitting for Oklahoma City Thunder fans, because it’s extremely polite, to the point of being awesomely polite or (expletive deleted) polite.

This parody may be good. I don’t know, because like movies with Adam Sandler in them, it is relegated to the trash bin by sheer relationship to annoying song.

I just…I just don’t know what to do. I have begged and pleaded, yet the tune lives on and is remade, only to garner more attention.

If you are reading this, I fear it’s too late. Somewhere, someone is recording another damned parody of this song.
