MINNEAPOLIS After suffering a mild concussion and neck strain in the first quarter of the Timberwolves’ 113-107 loss in Denver on Wednesday, Kevin Love will sit out Thursday night’s game against the Clippers.

Love spent the night in a Denver hospital and was cleared to return to Minneapolis on Thursday. He’s out indefinitely, and in the coming days his status will be reevaluated by the Timberwolves’ medical staff to determine if and when the power forward will return this season.

In the meantime, rookie Derrick Williams will likely move into the starting lineup. Love has averaged 26.0 points and 13.3 rebounds for the Timberwolves this season, and his 39.0 minutes per game is the second-highest average in the league. The Timberwolves have seven games remaining in 2012, against the Clippers, Thunder, Pacers, Grizzlies, Pistons, Warriors and Nuggets. With a loss Thursday night, Minnesota would be eliminated from the playoffs.
